Banshees and Leprechauns

“Colors are the smiles of nature.”

— Leigh Hunt —

  • Unfortunately, for most of us, life is too short to visit all of them, let alone give ourselves enough time to really experience them with everything they have to offer. Not only is every trip bound to be too short in one way or another, we also need to be rather selective in our choice of places we have the time (and the funds) to explore.

In my “previous life,” I had been to Ireland numerous times, sometimes twice a year. The trips had, however, always been for business, leaving little to no time to explore the country's stunning scenery. And because, for me, it carried the “stigma” of being a business destination, I had always, perhaps subconsciously, ruled it out as a vacation or photography destination.

When I finally did go to the southwest of the island in May 2022, I got a glimpse of what I had missed all those years. Kerry and the Dingle peninsula offer some spectacular locations and photography opportunities. And I’m sure there is so much more to explore photographically on the Emerald Isle.

While the images in this selection are probably less minimal and a tad more colorful than what I typically prefer these days, I still had a lot of fun making them. I'd say I have a very strong personal connection with every single one of the images, and the Banshees and Leprechauns will be glad to hear that I hope to be back at some not too distant point in the future...
